NYC no longer scares me.

6 hours in a bus is annoying. When two and a half of those are in mostly not moving traffic, the air conditioner has died not long after the traffic started being nasty, and the only openable thing while driving is the emergency exit in the roof of the bus, the ride gets very unpleasant, very quickly. The driver said that was one of his worst trips, and he's been doing it for 12 years.

Hey, if my first bus ride to NYC is that bad, it can only get better, right?

There is no law against being topless in NYC. Yes, I _did_ immediately make use of this knowledge when it was presented to me! This was precisely the kind of hot, muggy weather that always makes me wish I _could_ take off my shirt (stupid gender-specific laws!). Alas, after leaving Central Park, it seemed wiser to reshirt myself (subways have _entirely_ too much likelihood of people trying to cop a feel, for example). And, unfortunately, the repeatedly threatened thunderstorm never materialized. I wanted downpour! And lightning! (and to have the dried sweat washed off myself!) And I _love_ warm rainstorms...

Much silliness. Insufficient sleep (being awakened by light, and all). Much walking. I seem to do an awful lot of walking when visiting [livejournal.com profile] rosefox and[livejournal.com profile] sinboy. Which is a good thing, since I normally don't get enough exercise! My legs and feet tend to thank me, other than the fact that my sandals caused blisters on the tops of my feet (which were not worse because [livejournal.com profile] regyt demonstrated her state of preparedness by having bandaids).

Lots of people, but nothing like any of my previous visits. I approve of the general ability of [livejournal.com profile] rosefox, [livejournal.com profile] regyt, [livejournal.com profile] sinboy, [livejournal.com profile] kythryne, and [livejournal.com profile] elissaann to find places that I liked and was (mostly) not scared by. Also, [livejournal.com profile] regyt, [livejournal.com profile] sinboy, and [livejournal.com profile] kythryne are good at coping with an extremely overwhelmed, dazed, and exhausted post-bus ride [livejournal.com profile] wispfox. I am impressed. Mostly, I was tired, hot, starving, and completely useless. So there was much making of decisions by _other_ people.

Sleepy. Much silly. Much touch and cuddling. Is good. Must come back.

What she said. Also, what about taking the train instead of a bus?

Bus - $15 each way.

Train - upwards of $65 each way.

Significant difference; enough of one to make it worth it.

Ah, I didn't realize it was that big of a difference. Makes sense then.

I'm sorry that I didn't hang out with you longer. I've been low-energy and anti-social for a few days, mostly just hiding away in my apartment.

Do come back!

Is good that there was time with you; I completely understand the low energy and anti-social thing, so no worries. ;0

I had no idea, either! I was _immensely_ pleased (to the great amusement of many other people).

I remember hearing about it when a court struck down the then-existing women-can't-go-topless law ... But the times I've heard about women actually taking advantage of this have all been when it was done To Make A Point, like it still has to be "theatrical" or a political Statement to be okay. I figured it wouldn't really count until women decided, as [livejournal.com profile] wispfox did here, to simply take advantage of it to get comfortable without it being (primarily) a Statement.

But not being one of the people directly affected by that court decision, I've not felt it was my place to tell anyone else how to make use of it. Especially since my encouraging women to go topless more often might lead to others jumping to conclusions about my motives.

*nod* Indeed. Things which are done To Make A Statement are far less effective in causing something to be accepted than things which are simply done because it's just what you're doing.

Might be why I tend to avoid Making Statements, now that I think about it!

Of course the irony is that by Not Making A Statement you are making a larger (though less loud) statement. It's like it's the opposite of magick, because you have to not have your intent set on it to make it work most effectively.

Indeed! Although, with magic, after you send your intent on its way, you also need to stop worrying about it, or you can easily make the intent very messy and much less clear. :)

It was so good to have you around! Yes, definitely come back. We can get our own waterguns to take to the park for topless waterfights or something.

Topless watergun fight in the park! THAT. MUST. HAPPEN!

Perhaps in a few years I'll feel I have sufficient resources and power to consider heading over for a party or other specific event. 8->

(Right now I'm limited to short domestic hops - I *have* gotten on a plane, flown to Sydney, gone to a meeting, delivered a one hour presentation, turned around and gone home again, which everyone was oddly aghast at...)

Not cruel! It _is_ possible to plan such things for when you are here, presuming you are here during a time of year that it is warm enough (for my definition of such). :)

('course, if we're both in NYC at the same time, there might be insufficient crash space! Hmm. Perhaps if [livejournal.com profile] regyt has her own place...)
